What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Matagorda, Texas for the first time?

Getting around on shore can be tricky, we spent a little time the first day watching people come and go to see where it was safe to drive. It is well worth it to pay a guide for a trip out into the bay. The harbor is very convenient and easy to find

It's the first time I have fished Matagorda in June, so I have no basis for comparison. This was a fun outing, even though the bite was tough. FWIW, I would do it again tomorrow with this guide. Very fun time.

I’ve been on two guided trips in Matagorda and been on 3+ trips without a guide. If it’s your first time fishing in Matagorda, I would recommend hiring a guide to learn the area.

Go in the spring / summer when there are more fish. We caught a lot of fish but not a lot of keepers. Still lots of fun.

If your expectations are to catch big fish do a little research for the more optimal time and weather for that possibly.

From what I hear fishing is always good here. Try to check the weather, the wind can affect the fishing.

Be prepared for rain, but bring sunscreen it’s gonna be hot. So go early in the morning.

Sunscreen and a knowledgeable captain like Stan Sloan. This was our third trip with Capt. Sloan.

Find a good guide because they put in the hard work of finding where the fish are biting.

The facilities and bay are nice. The Reds were a little better target than trout at this point.

Matagorda is known for great inshore fishing. Sunscreen fishing shirts, hat and get out there.
