What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Freeport, Texas for the first time?

We were looking for more action with the shallow water. We were not hell bent on catching the bull red or shark. We wanted to cast and reel and catch a variety of the fish that were said to be biting by fishing booker- but we ended up going out a little deeper for bull reds. Note, I don't blame Evan for this- as he was expecting to fish for bull reds. I blame Fishing Booker for advertising that sheep head, reds, flounder and all of the shallow water fish were biting.

Although it was hot out but again it's August! The fishing was spot on. We caught red snapper, king mackerel, and two black tip sharks. Bring lots of water and your favorite snacks to share with the crew.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching! You never know if you are going to catch fish when you go out on a trip. We caught many fish, I lost count on the total number. We caught stark, bull reds and catfish.

First time anglers in this area should use a guide to get them up to speed on equipment, baits, lures and techniques. It will minimize the time to be successful and maximize the enjoyment of the outing.

Meet up with captain Marshal booker he is a great captain and I’m sure he’d be more than happy to show anyone how to fish! Young or old Marshal could show them the ropes and get many fish in the boat.

Weather was perfect, not as humid not salty as expected. We stayed in Surfside at a great rental and ate at Seahorse Bar & Grill. Rental was fabulous and grill was also very good - right on the beach. Great time in Freeport.

There is no doubt....book tour trip with Captains Derwyn and Marshall Booker, Texas Deep Sea Fishing. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. They are the most knowledgeable, experienced as well as extremely warm and personable. They will do everything possible to make your trip successful, memorable and enjoyable

We didn’t catch even one keeper between the 5 of us and went to several “good spots”

We caught tons of fish. Limited out on bull reds. Could have caught more if we went a little further out.

The Bull Reds are out in force this time of year. They're great fun to catch and put up a good fight. When they school up it is always nonstop action.

Do some research and see if it's the right time of year.these guys have to make a living they can't make the fish but they make the trip fun.

It's all up to mother nature! She controls it all. Sometimes it's great sometimes you will strike out.

These guys are awesome! Caught a ton of fish and had a blast learning and handing out with captain and crew!!

Think anytime is a good time if being on the water, enjoying fellowship, is important to you. Catching only represents %10 of the experience.

I was very impressed with fishing from this location. It was easy to get to the gulf and didn't take long to get to the action.

No matter how “avid of a fisherman” you are, allow the guide to be the professional and develop a relationship to make it more enjoyable for both!

Take something for motion sickness day before and day off. Bring rain gear, bring food and plenty of electrolytes and do not drink alcohol night before or during your trip.

We caught lots of fish, but would have enjoyed a few bull reds. Can't guarantee what will be caught though.

Do lots of research before booking and guided fishing trip any where in Surfside or freeport area. An ask plenty of questions

We did federal waters, catch and release, while the season is closed. The fish were hungry enough we couldn't keep them off our hooks. If you don't need anything to take home, that's the way to go.

Spend as much time as possible. The more time you spend the more fish you'll catch. Fish with live shrimp for bait.

Talk to Marshall for sure!! He does not dissapoint, in fishing, or hospitality! Very lively and fun crew to fish with!

Take care in July carry ice with towels to protect from the heat. Wrap a wet towel around your neck and drink plenty of water

I would recommend that anglers fishing in Freeport for the first time to visit the Surfside Marina and enquire about Oliver J Charters.

Have someone who knows what they are doing. We had no clue on what it all took to shark fishing on land. It was an amazing trip.

Be ready for a very experienced, knowledgeable Captain that can put you on the fish and make your trip exciting.

8 miles out the water is very clear and it is very relaxing. The drop method of fishing is very fun.

Keep an open mind and listen to your captain. I wanted to catch a variety of fish because I was bringing 1st timers. Weather changes and fish migrate. We still got reel time.

Sounds like March is a bit in between seasons for fishing. Have reasonable expectations and you’ll still have a great trip.
