What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Rockport, Texas for the first time?

Usually fishing Rockport in January is rated at least Good bt Texas Parks and Wildlife on their Fishing reports. This week however, was slow due to the very cold weather that moved through the area the last week or two. Even so this Captain knew where to find the Drum and Reds. We also caught specks wade fishing in the bay in front of where we were staying, so there are fish to be found even after the cold fronts.

The morning was a little chilly so dress in layers as when we got back to shore we had slightly sun burnt noses and cheeks. Our captain is the biggest reason we did so well fishing. I recommend Jelly Bean Guide Service 100%

Yes, Captain Trey Hudson was very professional and friendly. Trey is very skilled for his age and experience level. Trey was very helpful and patient. I realize that he is relatively new to the guide service. Hopefully in the near future he will be able to upgrade and improve his fishing craft. The flat bottom front (bow) and the main floor of the vessel does not take the moderate waves experienced in the bay area we fished. The bumpy ride is though on us old guys as we crossed the open water section of the trip. His boat is designed like an air boat for less drag across very shallow water. Peter J. Czerwinski

Hiring a fishing guide is an expensive day. But it's worth it if you catch fish! There are LOTS of fishing guides available in the Rockport area. Find one that has at least a decade of experience and guides for a living - these are the ones that have the experience and hunger to make your day successful. And worth the price that you pay.

Get some croakers and shrimp and go to Rockport Beach pier. It’s worth the $10 to get in.

For someone who's never fish the rockport area, I would definitely hire a fishing guide. Captain Tony Gonzales is a very experience guide, and will put you on the fish.

Weather that day was very windy, but it wasn't the day before, so it's just hit and miss on the weather like any other time of the year.

Pick and choose your captain carefully, Captain John is a "keeper " and a very safe boat captain ,everything was provided for me , let's fish !

Yes I would recommend Rockport. Just maybe pick early spring or fall if its your first time. I have fished Rockport for almost 40 years now so I kinda know what to expect for the time of year.

Employ a guided trip. The bay is large and and shallow, you will need help navigating to the hot spots.

Book a guide i’ve fished over 20 plus years and never brought enough fish home maybe a total of like 10 fish in 20 years thats not good but just wanted my son to have a good birthday

Get someone that know the waters like Capt. Matthew Valdez does..he knew where to position his boat..and all we had to do is cast out and we were on fish

Be prepared for south TX weather! It could be freezing with the wind on the boat one minute and the next you're burning up.

You have to have a guide for much of a chance to catch fish. Difficult and limited fishing only from shore.

We came home with lots of fish and had an amazing time with Captain Jared/First Light. He made fishing in Rockport fun and exciting!

The captain does all the fishing, you just bring in the fish, if your a first time fisher this would be what you might like.. if you like like boat rides then you'll like the trip

Always be checking the weather report. The wind is the most important part that will play into how successful your day will be.

Bring sun screen, hats, and comfortable shoes. The water may be calm one spot and rough in the next.
