Tough conditions today with excessive wind and extra high tide which made it harder to find the fish. Going early for half a day is best for summer in Texas. Gets real hot real fast. Especially if you don’t have cloud coverage.

David Hatcher
Only reason for a 4 above was the weather-not the guide. The guide was a 5. He did a great job in poor fishing weather. Limited on trout every day. This guide knows how to fish and he is fun to be with.

We stayed the week here on the bay and it was pretty windy all week. However, we first had our trip scheduled on Wednesday but the captain called and said we should reschedule it for Thursday. Thursday was the lone day we had calm weather. The sun was hot, and bright, but we had an evening trip from 4-8p so it wasn’t overbearing

Try staying at Reserve at St. Charles Bay Villa #501! The Captain pulls his boat up about 50 feet from your back door in the morning! It's luxury accommodations that make the end of the day a treat!

Find a good guide like Tommy. Where you fish isn’t trivial. You need someone who knows the area, knows how the fish are moving, knows the tides, bait options, etc. Bring clothing that will keep you good in the wind and in early morning cooler temps. Bring snacks, drinks, sunscreen.

Just be prepared for inclement weather. Our weekend was supposed to be a high chance of rain, but we were blessed with no showers during our fishing excursions…2 morning and 1 night gigging. 18 hrs of fishing in 2 days….

Usually fishing Rockport in January is rated at least Good bt Texas Parks and Wildlife on their Fishing reports. This week however, was slow due to the very cold weather that moved through the area the last week or two. Even so this Captain knew where to find the Drum and Reds. We also caught specks wade fishing in the bay in front of where we were staying, so there are fish to be found even after the cold fronts.

Yes, Captain Trey Hudson was very professional and friendly. Trey is very skilled for his age and experience level. Trey was very helpful and patient. I realize that he is relatively new to the guide service. Hopefully in the near future he will be able to upgrade and improve his fishing craft. The flat bottom front (bow) and the main floor of the vessel does not take the moderate waves experienced in the bay area we fished. The bumpy ride is though on us old guys as we crossed the open water section of the trip. His boat is designed like an air boat for less drag across very shallow water.

The morning was a little chilly so dress in layers as when we got back to shore we had slightly sun burnt noses and cheeks.
Our captain is the biggest reason we did so well fishing. I recommend Jelly Bean Guide Service 100%

Hiring a fishing guide is an expensive day. But it's worth it if you catch fish!
There are LOTS of fishing guides available in the Rockport area.
Find one that has at least a decade of experience and guides for a living - these are the ones that have the experience and hunger to make your day successful. And worth the price that you pay.

It’s windy here. There’s chances to catch fish on piers and bays. If you go on a charter you will catch as many fish that you want. Rockport is a fishing town.

Bradford Wible
Great with families and children. Captain Travis is a class act for people who love to fish.

John Gwyn
be sure to bring drinks & sun screen & let the captain know in advance if you are not experienced and he will set up the right kind of fishing for you.

Joann Hadaway
While the temp was perfect and sun warm the wind coming off the water carried a chill—light jacket recommended

Carlos Buezo
Bring sunscreen and warm gear for the ride out to the fishing spots. Then lose layers as the Texas Sun comes up!

Keith Dolar
The tide and wind was challenging but overall, Rockport is a great place to fish, not too far but far enough to have quality fish!

Linda Cantu
I would definitely recommend Captain John Wood. He’s very knowledgeable and gave great fishing tips.

Ray Stenglein
Be patient and enjoy the experience with or without a ton of catching. Life is full of ups and downs so have fun.

Phil Mcintyre
Short boat rides means more fishing time. Lots of choices to choose from. Live bait and artificial baits both work well.

Tracy Townsend
The rating may not be a true measurement of the fishing in October. The day of our trip was uncommonly calm and still, causing the fishing to be slower than usual.

Blake Bumgardner
October is great fishing but weather patterns are unpredictable and have a great deal to do with feeding habits. Pick your dates and hope for the best.

Ron Alvarado
Just dress for the weather. We were expecting rain and we lucked out with a very nice day for fishing.

Curt Williams
September is a transition month from summer to fall. Sometimes you will catch them real well, but the patterns are changing so it is no guarantee.

Tina Pierce
The fish weren't really biting. I don't know if it had anything to do with the time of year or not, plus it was hot. Even at that Capt. Paul did his best to make sure we caught fish... and we did.

Ryan Schwausch
This was my first time fishing here this time of year so I am not sure what could have been done differently.

Gilbert Reyes
For someone who's never fish the rockport area, I would definitely hire a fishing guide. Captain Tony Gonzales is a very experience guide, and will put you on the fish.

Brian Love
Weather that day was very windy, but it wasn't the day before, so it's just hit and miss on the weather like any other time of the year.

Bert Bartake
I chose this fishing trip on reviews and location. There are a lot out there. I didn’t take the first one that popped up. Worked to my benefit.

Tracy Owen
Pick and choose your captain carefully, Captain John is a "keeper " and a very safe boat captain ,everything was provided for me , let's fish !

Guides are invaluable in getting to the variety of fish species that come and go throughout the year in the Rockport area.
