What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Lihue, Hawaii for the first time?

Make sure they know it's not customary to freeze fish to fly home from Hawaii. Another angler on our boat seemed to want to fly some fish home with him. while this is possible at other places (Alaska etc) it is not something to expect in Hawaii.

Wear clothes that can get wet. Bring a soft sided cooler for your snacks and to take your fish home in. Paper bags get soaked and break. Put on sun screen before you get on the boat. Wear layers.

Get the sea sick meds!!! The water is beautiful bit never calm, waves were as tall as the front of the boat at times. its completely normal here but is like being out during a storm from the mainland.

unfortunately we didnt catch any fish. other boats in area that morning had no luck either. thats fishing. crew was good. did everything they could to get us a chance. 1-2 out of 6 got nauseous on board during 4 hour trip, so be prepared if youre one of thosr people. could consider googling what time of year ahi, mahi mahi, marlin, etc are most active or bite the most in Lihue.

No fish - 4 hours of sloshing around. If there’s nothing happening then change then I think they should have evaluated a change in approach or fishing method. Mayne idle fish at a deeper line? It was $850 gone. Next time we’ll spend the 850 on a Nāpali coast crusie

Go out with NO real expectations. Enjoy the views. And see what might land on the lines. John and Joe gave us tuna steaks to takes home, so good. Only mistake we should have taken More tuna with us.???

Booked the 6hr trip and landed 120lb Yellowfin and a 540lb Marlin. The boat is confortable and setup to catch monsters. The captain and deckhand are second to none. Very knowledgable and really put in the work to make sure their gear catches fish. Thanks again Randy and Dylan. You guys are animals! Mahalo, Jeremy

Be certain to ask as many questions of the Captain prior to your departure regarding the number and ages of any children that you may consider taking on your charter and the amount & type of provisions/snacks that will be provided depending on the length of your trip. People that may be sensitive to motion sickness should certainly bring medication because the first mile or so out of the harbor we experienced some ruff water but eventually smoothed out once we were further out to sea.

Definitely use Dramamine or an equivalent to help with any seasick issues. The boat goes quite fast and the ocean is rough. Older children would probably be ok (age 12+)and have fun but younger ones would not.

Go with the flow! Fishing is fishing you won’t always have constant action. Be patient trust the captain and crew. If you MIGHT get sick or you don’t know if you will take meds, Hawaii is not your lake back home it gets sporty out there.

Summer is busier for a reason. We knew it would be a roll of the dice if the fish would be biting since we came during the off-season. While we didn’t catch any today, it doesn’t mean someone else won’t tomorrow. That’s part of the excitement and pride when you actually bring one home.

There is a great bite but small fish. Where there’s small fish there’s big fish tho! Capt said fishing is very hit or miss right now, so you catch what you can and hope for the big one! Coming back for my 100 lb’er

The seas were really rough. That was the only issue. But our Captain was able to find the fish and get a great haul.

fishing styles vary season to season, late august you’re bit using live bait, just dragging lures and cruising. expect a solid cruise and if something hits, it hits.

Be prepared for sea sickness, 4 of 6 of our party at some point were sick, we had a beautiful day but storms much distance away had the seas riled up.

Hard to say if fishing is good in August since we did not catch anything but that’s the way it goes sometimes and a tropical system is 2 days away, which certainly could have had an impact.

The sea is little bumpy, so be ready for this But the fishing is pretty is incredible And the crew and captain are fantastic

The fishing was great! The trip before us caught fish and so did we! Excellent in all aspects!

Be prepared for considerable waves. If you have no fished the Pacific, I'd recommend starting with a short trip.

It’s a big ocean, so be patient—its not like a farm pond. Sunblock and a snack if needed, and enjoy the time on the water with this knowledgeable crew that lives fishing.

don't expect a lot of hookups. In fact, don't expect many bites. If your boat catches one fish consider yourself lucky. If you enjoy being on a boat, in the ocean then you'll love it.

Its always best to book with a local guide who knows the lay of the land (or water). Book with Imua Charters! These guys have been doing this their whole lives.

I wouldn't recommend for small children, because these fish are strong. I was well drained reeling up two. Teenagers would be fine and any serious fisher will appreciate the Captain's knowledge.

Book with these guys- just make sure you’re staying somewhere you can bring your beautifully filleted fish back to to prepare!

Bring a good attitude, the guys on the Imua will work their tales off to get you into fish. Of you get sea sick get the patches for behind your ear. Lastly enjoy it and soak it all in.

Be prepared for wave and boat action, as they move fast through the water to find and attract the fish.

check weather snd water conditions and seek to find how the cat h has been going before you commit.

I will always fish with these guys from here on out, I also tried aloha sport fishing, and they don’t compare, this boat is way more comfortable, and the crew is way more friendly

You cant make the fish bite, this was my second trip in Kauai, same time of year, caught fish last time…no luck this time. Still a great experience.

i would recommend this trip. first time on the island and first time fishing here as well. the waves were big. highly reccomend taking something for sea sickness.
