Don’t be so worried about the weather and remember you are there to fish…maybe catch the fish of a lifetime. Listen to the experts.

Yes. This was my first time fishing in Hawaii and fishing for BIG fish and it was perfect. This crew gives you all the training you need to be successful as a rookie.

Enjoy the views of the island from the boat and be patient it’s a huge fishery that can take some time in between bites. Always worth the wait!

Make sure you communicate in preparation. I said appropriate for children, but really communicate that above all else. I would expect it depends on age to a degree as to what species is targeted.

Be patient and understand that one in four charters don't catch anything (based on what our captain told us).

Book a trip on a smaller boat. Sitting in the cabin of a big cruiser is not really that fun. Kona is one of the best fisheries in the world.

I mean, we didn't catch anything, but this is known to be a good place to fish and the boat/captain/first mate were fantastic

We only caught one fish almost 3 and a half hours in, but I don't actually know the bite rate during different times of year. So don't exactly take my word for it

Do a little research before booking so can find the right charter for your adventure. Skillet Sport Fishing was a great charter for the cost and species targeted.

Invest in UPF gear, remember sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, hydration (we brought lots of water and liquid IV), decent shoes for the boat and water on deck, and snacks.

Fishing is fishing, not catching. Only caught one. Would’ve loved to be reeling in one after another, but wasn’t meant to be our particular day. Captain Dave was great.

I'm not sure about the rest of the month, but this morning after landing my striper, Sawyer was on the phone and 10 other boats hadn't gotten anything.

A half-day trip locks you into a small window of tides and sea state - consider a full-day to give you more flexibility.

If you definitely want to catch fish, there are small fish offshore options. This is big game fishing, looking for tuna and other large fish and not guaranteed.

Make sure to book at least a 6 hour charter , this for sure increases your opportunity for multiple fish.
