What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii for the first time?

Kevin and Mahina were amazing!! We caught so many fish, and had the best day on the water. Could not recommend them more! We will absolutely be back

Be patient, We booked a 6 hour morning trip it took about 2 hours Before I hooked up a 125 lb yellowfin tuna & as we were heading in we caught a beautiful blue Marlin

The captain recommended April-June as better months for fishing. Even shore fishing has been producing low results.

Trolling means sitting back and waiting until a fish is hooked. Not much activity until a fish is on.

Remember that it’s called “fishing” and not “catching” for a reason. Be patient and enjoy the journey and the experience and if the fish are biting then you will have an even better time!

Remember what you are paying for is all the gear, boat, gas, crew, slip, and time. If fish get involved it is a bonus and consider yourself lucky.

Never fished here. Only 1 Marlin caught today no other species of fish. May look at a different time of year and catch counts for those months.

Was well with the trip. The captain and crew were extremely friendly helpful and knowledgeable about what we should expect.

Remember it is called a fishing trip not Catching trip , the captain and crew will do their best but it's still up to the fish if it wants to take the hook.

It's fishing. Understand catching is not guaranteed but your Captain and crew will do everything possible to make sure you have the best odds and a great time doing so!

Lots of sunscreen and patience. Remember it’s fishing sometimes you catch fish sometimes you don’t. Don’t go in expecting to catch a monster fish just because you’re in the ocean.

Got a blue marlin on my 50th. Nothing negative at all about this trip. Kevin and Jason were great and made sure we knew what to do, when to do it, and how to execute.

I recommend planning your trip 7 days before the end of the full moon and try and get the current going into the island.

If you are looking to catch quanity then bottom fishing is a great way to go but if you are hoping to catch larger fish then you are going to want to go deep sea fishing (trolling).

Targeting Blue Marlin is a marathon. Lots of trolling with no action, then complete chaos when the bite happens. One fish per trip is not easy. By catch is minimal.

Don't expect to catch anything, and be excited when you do. Laugh hand have fun you are not at work, but they crew is and they trying to give you a great experience. Also sunscreen, and hydrate.

Yes, if they want to catch trophy fish. May not be appropriate for those with small attention spans.

As they will tell you, "It's called fishing, not catching." Nothing is guaranteed. We had 3 anglers and got one fish.

Wasn’t my first time going out on a charter but both captain and first mate spent time making sure my party knew exactly what to do in order to make the trip a success.

The Kona coast is a wonderful place to fish, the bottom drops off quickly so you can see the shore all the time you are fishing.

Not a ton of bites the day we went out, but the bite we caught was a big one! Short-billed spearfish :-)

Go out with an open mind and enjoy the time on the water! It’s beautiful and peaceful even if the catching isn’t going how you’d like!

If you have anyone within your party who may get seasick, be sure to take some sort of dramamine the evening before. Do not wait until you get on the boat. The crew was extremely understanding.

You may want to have some medicine for seasickness. Otherwise take your family and have a good time.

Really fun, just go into it understanding that the fish fight hard and that you may not catch anything.
