Flounder fishing in Georgia, United States is all about shallow marshes, winding creeks, and sandy flats. These Flatfish hide on the bottom, then strike fast. They are tasty, fight well on light tackle, and make a fun goal for anglers of all ages.

Most captains target Flounder with inshore fishing and bottom fishing. You will drift live shrimp, mud minnows, or small mullet along drop-offs and creek mouths. Soft-plastic jigs also work well; a jig is a weighted hook you bounce near the bottom. Some anglers try flounder gigging at night where it is legal, using lights to spot fish in clear, shallow water.

Trips usually run a half day in calm, protected waters. The run to the first spot is short, and the action can be steady around a moving tide. This is great for first-timers, kids, and anyone who loves hands-on fishing. Captains typically provide rods, tackle, and bait. Bring sun protection, drinks, snacks, a hat, and non-marking shoes. Ask your captain what is supplied and what you may keep.

Georgia’s best Flounder areas include the tidal waters around Savannah and Wassaw Sound, the marshes near St. Simons and Brunswick, and the sounds off St. Catherines and Sapelo. Farther south, look to the creeks and grass lines around Cumberland Island and the St. Marys River. Focus on points, oyster edges, docks, and sandy pockets at the mouths of creeks.

Before you go, check Georgia fishing license rules and make sure you have any required permits. Review open seasons, harvest limits, and gear restrictions for Flounder, since these can change. If you plan to keep fish, confirm your captain’s policy and current regulations for your trip dates.

    Wonderful experience with Miss Judy's!

Our fishing trip was awesome! We caught red fish, flounder, and trout. Captain Ross was absolutely THE BEST! He was personable, knowledgeable, and put us on the fish. Boat and equipment were great. And we can't say enough good things about Miss Judy! She's a class act. It was the perfect day of fishing.

Amazing fishing trip with Captain Vashon

So much fun. Captain Vashon put us on tons of Black bass right away, caught a flounder and red snapper as well. The pièce de résistance however, was the 10 ft tiger shark we caught and released. Will book another trip with Captain Vashon.
