Quaint Old Florida area that is a mixture of new tourist amenities and an out of the way west coast Florida fishing community, Fun to visit and fun to go fishing from. Reminds me of Tarpon Springs in the 50's.

Make sure that you cover more areas, not just hang around the mouth of the river. The weather was a little breezy, but would not interfere with the trip to other areas. Will try another guide service next time.

Bring something to put your catch in. Cooler or bags. Find someone to shuck the scallops when you first get off the boat. Don't wait.

Tides can be higher in summer so make sure you can dive for the scallops in 4-8ft of water. If you’re bringing your kids make sure they are really good swimmers.

Warm waters and lots of scallops. Take your time and look for them in the moss and grass. Search for the white shells and blue eyes.

Get a charter for whatever you're fishing for. The local captains know the local waters & how to put you on what you're after.

Plan to go scalloping if you are visiting in hot weather. If you do, you will not be disappointed. Other fishing will be limited by the water temperature.

Will probably go in July next time to give the scallops time to grow. But we got our limit and had a great time.

It’s less crowded than the dates earlier in the season and the scallops seem bigger.
