Roosterfish Fishing in Costa Rica

Roosterfish Fishing in Costa Rica

Roosterfish are by far the most attractive inshore sport fishing game of Costa Rica. They're abundant year-round, with the slowest months being October through December, during which you can hope for only 2-3 fish per half day trip (compared to July through September, where you might catch as many as 7 on the same trip).

Roosters run on the Pacific side from north to south, with the most popular fisheries being TamarindoJaco and Quepos. These powerful and photogenic fish are found over sandy inshore and nearshore shallows, but also around rocky islands and reefs.

Great charters to book for targeting Roosters include Salsa (Tamarindo) Allin Sportfishing (Jaco) and Mar 1 Sportfishing (Quepos).

Roosterfish fishing in Costa Rica varies slightly throughout the year. High season is July to September. Low season is January to June and October to December. There is no closed season.
