What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Herradura, Puntarenas for the first time?

Just have some fun. With Fishing there is no guarantee you catch what you catch. And we got to see turtles and dolphins.

The water taxis expect tips. I did $20 1 way then $10 on the way back. $10 each way is more than fair in my opinion for such a short ride.

Most boats are not at docks. You will take a water taxi so your feet will get wet. Make sure you have water shoes or are willing to go barefoot on a rocky beach.

Use Gitana! Tell them you're a novice and ask to practice proper use of the reel beforehand. It is a bit of an art to keep a large fish in the hook.

Be open to bottom fishing to increase your chances of success. We had some success trolling, but bottom fishing was much more successful.

Be prepared for the heat, and follow the captains advise. You can’t change what is biting and what is not.

Be prepared for a workout on a yellow fin tuna. Much harder than I expected but worth the all the effort!

just the fishing sucked because of the red tide. the crew was great. Go when there isn't red tide is what I'd suggest.

Pick the right crew and boat and you'll find the fish even though it may not be the perfect time of year.

The Mahi Mahi and Yellowfin are plentiful in August and the weather is goegeous! A bit of rain here and there but nothing you can’t handle!

Probably some of the best fishing in the world out of this port. Bring lots of protection from sun, long sleeve fishing shirts and pull over masks are great

Great time for rooster , snapper and mahi although bill fish bite coming on a little early too. Blame that on al gore I guess.

Get a better boat for your trip don’t trust pictures for sure. You really need to see them before you book a trip.

These excursions are not for the hardcore fishermen types who want to do everything, i.e., bait the hooks, throw the lines out, etc.,

Only go with professional guides from the Los Suenos Marina if you want to catch fish and not get seasick on a boat that is too small for the swells.

It may be hit or miss especially with the weather but hard to beat going out on the water!

Make sure you ready to catch some fish! Bring appropriate clothing UPF50 as you will be in the sun

It’s a crap shoot in winter. Really look at tides and weather and book accordingly.

Drink a lot of fluids! Not counting beer, it is hot & humid here and subject to hear stress.

Fishing was great with multiple species available and great weather with calm seas.

The perfect mix of patiently waiting for a bite and knowing when to look elsewhere!

Great crew that takes care of all of your needs. Very nice boat with padded seats and nice shad.

If you are going to charter, make sure your boat is out of the marina, not off the beach!
