Apparently according to our guide fishing in April is usually great but no much this year. I wish they would’ve told me ahead of time (since they had my contact information) for a possible reschedule until fish levels were better

I like going out fishing, weather plays a big roll, it is always good to check and learn with guides, they have been out and know what’s to be expected. Don’t get disappointed, fishing is very unpredictable even with a guide. Spring and fall is the best but there’s always fish out there.

If you’re looking to catch fish, the entrance fee to Calaveras is definitely worth the cost, as is hiring a local guide. Shore anglers do pretty darn well there as well. If you’re looking for a more natural, scenic setting, I’d highly recommend going to the Guadalupe River or Canyon Lake.

April a little early in the season for reds, some days good, some slower. Fishing improves in May and red hot in June and July. Good fishing for reds until December but they move around. Incredible lake! We live in NW SA and were home in a half an hour. Incredible!

Getting out is the key, if you find a local guide help you understand what fish is doing for the season. There’s different types of bait for the different species. Have fun don’t stress if there’s no catch at first, it is a pleasant process when reeling in your fish. ?

It was an amazing experience! The pace was great and not too slow so it kept us engaged. I would 100% recommend fishing with this company and Captain Miguel for no matter your experience level.

Go to the bathroom before you board! And be prepared to hold it for 4-5 hours. Brings water and snacks.

Give it a shot. Be prepared to catch fish. Redfish put up a good fight, are tasty and you can keep anything over 20 inches. A good guide can help a lot. Well worth it!

It was just bad timing for reds. They weren't in schools. They were scattered in many different areas.

Afternoon trip might be a little warmer. Redfish are stocked in the power plant lakes and reach keeper size and smaller ones are just as fun to catch.

Use one of the Charters and fish/catch your dinner on our power station cooling lakes. The cost is about the same as a trip to the coast to fish but here you can catch and for kids that is great.
