Watch the weather patterns and try to get a few warm days in a row to make the snook more active. Still early forTarpon and the normally reliable sea trout are still recovering from the red tide last year so maybe next year might be better it you prefer that species. We had a great time catching lady fish when the water temps dipped and put the snook off their feed. Be prepared for some wind this time of year.

Only because January can be a crap shoot : ) It was cold the day we fished so things were a bit quiet - but 2 days later is was back in the mid/high 70's and I'm sure much better for those anglers :) :)

Read reviews and make sure to contact the captain to answere any questions before your charter. For example , what fish does he usually go for, how much time is spent actually fishing as opposed to getting to fishing spot. Or anything else this way you don't have any surprises

Try the inland fishing in the shallows to site fish along the Mangroves, you never know what may be leaving in the shadows of each cast.

Look over the available trips, read the reviews carefully, check out the local fishing web sites to see what is running and be aware of the weather and conditions (same as anywhere you want to fish).

Fishing is fishing--sometimes you have a good day and sometimes you enjoy the view. In our case we had a lot of action but the fish were just short of keepers. But it was a nice day.

Some of the fish is out of season, if you want to catch and keep big fish, Nov. Probably is not good season.

Be prepared for possible rain and don’t complain to the captain if it does. It’s out of his control. Keep a good attitude and God will put the fish on the look!

It was windy on the gulf so fished back bays. Very fun but could be disappointing if a person wanted to go in the gulf for larger fish.

Don't have too many people on the charter. The less people, the better. It's hard catching fish when dolphins are around.

Fishing for snook does require some skill in casting. The Capt. will do it for you if you are not a fisherperson.

It's a transitional time of the year and water temps really affect the species and size of fish. Not to worry though, there are lots of fish but maybe not necessarily lunkers.

Bay and inland ocean fishing is great because it is not so weather and wind sensitive as deep sea fishing.

Hire a guide who grew up in the area as they will have more "insider" information and should know the water like the back of their hand.
