What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Punta Cana for the first time?

DON'T travel with your fly rod in hand carry on the way back to the US. Dominican security confiscated my rod at the airport security checkpoint! I barely got my $800 reel back with me. They have NO idea how to handle anglers.

In my opinion every day fishing is different. We had 6 strikes took 2 fish. I think thats pretty acceptable. We travelled in the taxi with two guys from Chile and they went on a 4 hour trip and caught 5 Mahi Mahi.

Don't take the half day trip. They don't go out very far and probably the same places every day. My fault for booking that type of trip. We caught no fish but had two bites. Perhaps if we went straight out and back we would have been in deeper water with more fish. Boat and crew were great.

Granted the crew blamed the poor fishing on a full moon and that they can eat all night. These are fish that never stop moving, rarely stop eating. Wave conditions were 2-4 so not bad for this time of year. These are old boats, chugger desiel engines so expect lots of funds that will add to the sick sickness for some.

Definitely use big marlin. Quality fleet. Most importantly there door to door transport from your resort.

Bring sun screen and drink the water provided. The boat has plenty of shade. Fishing machine crew does the rest.

Look at the type you want to catch and go when it’s the best time of the year to catch what you are looking for

They will send you out in seas with waves that make fishing completely uncomfortable! Avoid as it is a cash grab and not a good experience

Follow the instructions regarding keeping your stomach empty. I had an amazing time, but I puked my guts out from the waves. I was so glad that I followed the advice of the team and skipped breakfast !!!

Yes! You don't have to go far fishing was abundant and amazing! Once in a lifetime

Be prepared for the obvious. It is hot in July and prepare for potential rough water.

Take motion sickness meds, bring sunscreen and remember it’s fishing, nothing is guaranteed

Depending on where you stay you may be in for a ride to get to this mooring location. You will also be tendered to the boat as it is not located at a marina

Water could be rougher than where you are visiting from but crew is experienced and will keep trip exciting. Wear sunblock

Check the weather. Lots of swells, wasn’t great sea sickness. Even the one who hasn’t been sick before was.

The weather was amazing, we did have rolling waves. Those may make some seasick perhaps, I'd bring Gravol or Dramamine just in case. Sunscreen because it is so beautiful out, your may get burned.

Seas were pretty rough so make sure everyone in your party is good with 4-8 foot wave range. Ours was 4-6 feet and frequent.

Absolutely, I would recommend if it's their first time they should find for a good staff so they feel confident and helped by them.

the water was rough so it should be expected. if you are prone to get seasick, you should take that into account.

We caught a couple fish right off the bat, but the weather really limited our ability to enjoy the trip. Not sure if the end of march is typically rough water or just the day we went.

Please keep in mind that the Atlantic Ocean can be really rough the majority of the time, I myself would not go fishing offshore anything above 3 foot sea waves

February may not be the best fishing month? we have been more lucky in other period of the year. But we need to go out more to really have a more factual opinion.

It’s winter fishing, we got lucky. If you are going to fish solely, the summer months would be better suited. Like most, this was an excursion within our family vacation.

Weather can sometimes be challenging and fish aren't always biting. We had fun and caught a nice fish.

The waves were very high and strong. Not a trip for inexperienced fishermen but an excellent trip for the experienced

My only advice for fishing Punta Cana is to research the seasons and conditions. It can get pretty snotty.

If you haven't gone deep sea fishing before, these waters were rough so take plenty of dramamine and hope for the best!!! Don't know about other times of the year

Make sure the Ocean swells are not to high. Makes it difficult to stand up and fish, specially if you haven't fish in the Ocean for a while. But a great trip just the same
