What anglers say about Silver Perch fishing
- 5.0/5(Lake fishing trip)
Knowledgeable and capable captain
Chad was such a great guide. He was well prepared and knew exactly where to go. He took the time to explain why we were trying the different techniques, what to do in different situations, and explained the gear he was using. We caught a lot of fish but more importantly to me, learned a lot about how to fish on lake Gaston.

Great Fishing trip!
We really enjoyed our trip with Captain Travis! He was very accommodating and tried his best to work around the weather but it he weather had other plans. Despite the weather we still had a great trip! Captain Travis took his time with us and educated us on how to fish and the different types of fish we were catching. Would highly recommend Schooled Up Fishing Charter!

About Silver Perch fishing
Silver Perch fishing is all about easy action on light tackle. This small member of the Drum family schools in shallow, protected waters like bays, tidal creeks, and marsh edges. Anglers target it for quick bites, steady fun, and simple gear. It’s a great way to learn the basics and keep the rods bending.
You can catch Silver Perch while inshore fishing with light spinning gear. Try bottom fishing with small hooks, a light leader, and just enough weight to hold. Shrimp, cut bait, or small soft plastics work well. A popping cork helps suspend your bait above grass. On fly fishing gear, small streamers or shrimp patterns draw strikes.
Expect frequent bites rather than long fights. Silver Perch often feed in schools, so action can build fast once you find them. This makes it perfect for beginners, kids, and anyone who enjoys constant activity. Bring polarized sunglasses to spot grass lines, sunscreen, and a hat. A small cooler and plenty of water help on warm days. Handle fish gently and release them quickly if you plan to let them go.
Before your trip, check local rules for Silver Perch fishing. Regulations can change by state and season. Confirm license or permit needs, and review open seasons, harvest limits, and size rules. Some areas have gear, bait, or area closures to protect fish and habitats. Always follow current regulations where you fish.
