What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Wanchese, North Carolina for the first time?

Plenty of charter options. Tiki bar was great. Filet guys were fast. Ships store was great. Friendly folks all around.

Relax! It’s fun even if you’re not hauling in as many as you think you are, and be prepared to use a lot of arm strength to reel in even small fish! Ha!

The ocean was very rough and when trolling we didn't even get a bite, we ended up going into the sound and individual fishing more where we did catch some but would suggest to do the all day trip.

Make sure you get the trip you’re paying for. If there’s inclement weather make sure you don’t end up on a trip that has no chance for success

Read different reviews and email different charters. My fishing charter with Duckhunter - 28 was excellent and Captain Hunter responded to mu texts/email very quickly.

We had a great time with Captain Randy and caught 50- 60 fish in three hours time. I would recommend fishing in Wanchese.

Could rain or storm at any time be ready for that. However good times with good people out of watches pier

Get there early so you can find the boat the day before. Call your captain and get any last minute instructions.

I prefer to book 1/2 or 3/4 day trips. No one's gets overly tired and I get to learn from different captains.

Good marina with all the amenities you would need in terms of ice, store, bar, parking and fish cleaning. We did an in-shore charter and got a good number of blues and Spanish Mackerel.

Going out of Wanchese is far better than I expected and everyone at the Wanchese marina are so professional and friendly!

Go with an experienced captain who knows the waters and has the proper equipment to handle whichever species you are looking for.

Watch the weather closely and take the advise of the captain on the timing. I would recommend that you have some flexibility in your schedule to make the trip all you want it to be.

The captain had to work hard to get us tuna. The end of April is still a little too early when NC had several heavy rain storms.

Despicable the turmoils that hurricane erin brought to we still caught a lot of fish

Be patient. Sometimes it takes a bit to get going. Then they start hitting and the day goes fast.

Come a little earlier to enjoy a meal at "The Landing Grill" before going out. Or you can afterward

Awesome fish, big fish for being late in the season. Great experience for the kids too!

Offshore fishing can be hit or miss. We had a great time catching shrimp and crabs.

Get a comfortable boat, plenty of sunscreen, snacks and drinks, and enjoy yourself!

If you have kids and they like fishing and like to try fishing, smaller boats are the way to go.

Don’t book too far in advance because you might get unlucky with the weather.

There were giant schools of drum cruising up the coast and some random bluefin tuna

Haul is lighter than September, but Captains in Wanchese know where the fish are and why.

Like anything, it can be finicky, but October redfish and trout fishing is some of the best.

Pick a medium size boat so you have lots of option including fishing inlets, ocean, and the sound.

Find out what type of fish is in season, speak with the captain prior to booking trip.

Bring a small cooler, some drinks, sunglasses and sunscreen. They provide everything else.

Fish the sound for all it offers. When you know they like it head out for bigger fish next time
