What a great place to set out on a Sportfishing trip. The weather is great, great location and the fish are biting.

Big game fish are 40 miles out so plan an all day charter. Inshore fishing is fast and furious and fish are smaller. Fun nonetheless!

Relax! It’s fun even if you’re not hauling in as many as you think you are, and be prepared to use a lot of arm strength to reel in even small fish! Ha!

The ocean was very rough and when trolling we didn't even get a bite, we ended up going into the sound and individual fishing more where we did catch some but would suggest to do the all day trip.

Make sure you get the trip you’re paying for. If there’s inclement weather make sure you don’t end up on a trip that has no chance for success

Read different reviews and email different charters. My fishing charter with Duckhunter - 28 was excellent and Captain Hunter responded to mu texts/email very quickly.

We had a great time with Captain Randy and caught 50- 60 fish in three hours time. I would recommend fishing in Wanchese.

Get there early so you can find the boat the day before.
Call your captain and get any last minute instructions.

I prefer to book 1/2 or 3/4 day trips. No one's gets overly tired and I get to learn from different captains.

Good marina with all the amenities you would need in terms of ice, store, bar, parking and fish cleaning. We did an in-shore charter and got a good number of blues and Spanish Mackerel.

Going out of Wanchese is far better than I expected and everyone at the Wanchese marina are so professional and friendly!

Go with an experienced captain who knows the waters and has the proper equipment to handle whichever species you are looking for.

Watch the weather closely and take the advise of the captain on the timing. I would recommend that you have some flexibility in your schedule to make the trip all you want it to be.

The captain had to work hard to get us tuna. The end of April is still a little too early when NC had several heavy rain storms.

Emily Hoar
Haul is lighter than September, but Captains in Wanchese know where the fish are and why.

Michael Pope
Like anything, it can be finicky, but October redfish and trout fishing is some of the best.

Michael Sanford
Pick a medium size boat so you have lots of option including fishing inlets, ocean, and the sound.

Tyrone Brown
Find out what type of fish is in season, speak with the captain prior to booking trip.

William Walters
Bring a small cooler, some drinks, sunglasses and sunscreen. They provide everything else.

John Betz
Fish the sound for all it offers. When you know they like it head out for bigger fish next time

JEFF BURNS
Have your catch cleaned at the marina and cooked at the Landing Grill right up front in the marina.

Nicole Evans
Bring sunscreen a cooler for your catch, and a hat, the boat captains will handle the rest.

John Hayes
Do your research in advance and tell your captain what species you want to target.

Nathaniel Swanson
Be ready to experience a working marina. These are the people you want to support!

Wanda Simerly
Fishing just now starting to happen! Later June would be better, so we understand!

John Burton
Be aware that the Captain has no control over the weather or the condition of the seas.

Lots of good options to get out there catch fish. Give Captain Lance of Black Flag Fishing a try!
