We limited out but the fishing is hard in May. With 30 mph winds and water temperature coming up quickly, the fish were a challenge to find. Our guide was very experienced and we'd hit a spot and if no fish, we'd move on quickly and not waste time. We limited out but it was only because our guide worked very hard and was very experienced. Had a ball, we'd go back next week if we could!

Great time in Port A. The food scene was so much better than I recall in the past. Even the bad weather was ok and cleared out for the afternoon. Fish were not biting like crazy but we still managed to pull our limit on trout and grab plenty for the freezer. Great time to visit!

DISAPPOINTING! Our guide was vulgar, unprepared, unorganized, and lazy. Our trip started at 2pm and for the 1st hour I watched and helped our guide set up a tent. We did not get the 1st bait in the water until 3:00 and our 2nd bait in the water until after 4:00. I than watched him take a 45 minute nap while I watched the 2 rods. Sometime after 7:00 he finally got enough juice in the drone battery (that he was charging off his car battery) and we sent out the 3rd bait. Why wasn’t the tent set up and the drone charged prior to my prior to the trip starting. For the price I paid everything should have been set up and ready to go by the time we got there. I heard him talk more about how he needed time off than how we were going to catch fish… I should have paid more money and went elsewhere.

make sure you verify if the boat has lunch and if not, bring something to eat and keep on our stomach. take sea sickness meds prior to getting on the boat. bring sunscreen. if you have parlor in the boat, a working AC is a must as there is not a lot of room on the boat for air movement to keep you cool and august is a hot month down at the coast with little wind. August the seas are much flatter than in other months due to lack of wind. bring a wide brimmed hat and sunshades. Keep an eye on the seasons for red snapper as we missed it by 2 days on this charter. If you want to troll for larger fish you have to go out further and a trip of 8 hours will not get you to the bigger fish. we went out 50 miles but according to the captain to get to tuna and bill fish, you would need to be much further out.

Expect to have a great time on the water and hope you get to catch some fish while doing it. Fishing can be tough and the local guides will always do their best to put you in the best possible position to have a successful trip. Be open minded and willing to listen and learn from your guide.

Tom Maikowski
These waters have plenty of fish but as such, sand holes can be go, slo, or no! Be patient and never blame the Captain. We went from no to slo to go in 4 hours, huge fish trumped small fish, then went to Virginia’s to cook our catch. It was a great day!

Eric Cook
Check with your guide about the moon, tide and weather. You don't want to do it during a full moon. The lower the tide the better, and high pressure systems and warmer water Temps make the fishing slower.

Luke Hughes
Definitely a great trip with Captain Kenny. He was friendly and professional and created a positive fun outing for our family. He knows the water and fish very well. The price tag might seem a bit steep, but the experience and memories were worth every penny! I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Judy Smitg
Don’t go in December. Mac said we didn’t catch keepers because it was too cold. Well, he knew what the temperature was going to be the day before but he never called us to relay this message to us when we had time to cancel our trip. It felt like all he cared about was making money off us and not the people, which was us, that he was providing this service for..

Timothy Ottinger
Look for Captain Kenny bay fishing expert an great person. It was a full moon night before and the fish were feeding all night he let us know in advance it could be slow due to that. We still went out an he got us all fish.

Dave Dugas
If you choose a guided fishing trip , do not expect to catch your limit . Several conditions have to come together to be succesful. You are commited to the day you choose and a crap shoot on conditions !

Cody Curtis
I would recommend that if this is your first-time fishing offshore and your body is not use to the waves, be sure to get the prescription motion sickness patch or some kind of good motion sickness pill.

Jessica Pipal
Bring lots of sunscreen. These center console boats dove have a whole lot of shade so, for families and ladies recommend a towel to drape over your little ones or your legs. Definitely a rash guard or long sleeve fishing shirt. Especially if your iut a long time. Keep hydrated this time of year and you’ll be great :-)

Jason Adair
I was worried about the water being rough because it was windy and rough on the beach, but the flats were smooth as glass. I was never worried, even with kids. Fishing was good even though a tropical storm had rolled though a few days before.

Talk to the guides previous to the trip to see what conditions are like, before you book. The weather was abnormal before our trip and had a significant effect on the fishing. As I understand it, fishing is usually better during the time that we booked for but, at the time of our trip, the guide had to work hard to get us into the fish. Our guide did exceptionally well at getting us hooked up with fish when other guides were having little to no success.

We had an excellent trip!! It was a Father's Day gift to our dad. I truly believed he enjoyed it after hearing him tell his friends over over the phone what he was doing and the number of fish we caught kept increasing:)
Captain was knowledgeable and patient. Also, as a side note, we had a four hour charter and brought food for the cavalry (don't do that). Second, Captain will accept grapes for tips.
All in all it was an excellent experience!

We got caught in a bad week of weather: strong tide, rip current, shoreline flood advisory, and strong wind. BUT, it's spring break so it's not like we picked the date - kids decided to take the chance.

Book with Captain Cory Russell!! Captain Cory helps with understanding to how to land your fish. He does everything to help beginners learn what to expect. All you have to do is fish, he does everything else.

Randy with Red Tag Guides was a perfect fit for our crew celebrating a 13th birthday. He was knowledgeable, passionate, professional, fun and got the boys on the fish for a good quality time!! Highly recommended Red Tag Guide Services for successful fishing in Post A

It's a fishing trip. Think of what you would need if you were going out on a boat for hours of FISHING. Your guide's not there to feed you, take you to shore to the restroom. He's there to put you on fish. Boat shoes are a must to keep your feet comfortable. A swimsuit with light, long sleeves, hooded fishing shirt is recommended. It gets hot and humid here.

Fishing in Port Aransas is great because the water gets deep quick and is normally very clean and clear. There are good quality boats to choose from for charters and there is a lot to do in Port Aransas for the whole family so it's a great place to vacation.

Fishing is tough in August anywhere. Expect to travel alot from place to place to try to find some fish that bite. Not sure I'd book whole day fishing. Early morning or late afternoon fishing would be the best. Mid day is brutal hot.

Do your research on your Guides. Find someone you can rely on. We were catching nice size fish when the other boats were not. Maybe it was just luck, but it was sure nice to catch fish. We drove 9 hours just to fish the Port A area.

Unless you have a boat, network with friends to find a very good charter service.
Adjust your angling hours in the summer to stay out of the heat of the day.
Wait till the reds are running in the fall and invest in good gear and a net. Set your drag correctly for you equipment and line.

I have fished the entire Texas coast and Port Aransas is a top two. All of the charters here both inshore and off seem to always send you home with quality fish. The boats are not all luxury vessels by any meens, but they get the job done.

I highly recommend booking a trip with Capt Jay on his sport fishing boat El Cucuy. Capt Jay is an experienced skipper who is dedicated to showing his clients a good time and doing all he can to catch fish. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and have already recommended Jay to friends who enjoy offshore sport fishing. We'll definitely fish with him again. Had a great trip.

Go with a guide or at least a chartered boat, we have used Dolphin Dock in the past, they were really good and we used Southwest Sportfishing this year as our personal fishing guide this was an even greater experience that is very unique and awesome for building memories with family and/or friends.

Port A has always been my favorite place on the Gulf Coast. If possible, get here before school lets out for the summer.

Pamela Long
Absolutely without hesitation I would recommend Just Doin It to anyone and everyone!

The weather and the moon definitely affect the fishing. Do some research and try not to schedule things on windy days or when there’s a full moon.
