What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Key West, Florida for the first time?

Start with a four hour trip. Both the weather and fishing can be a little sketchy.

Going for reef fish for a first timer would be great as its easy with a lot of action

They have AC so if you get hot, you can go inside and cool off. Awesome benefit.

Trust the Captain on what's biting. We caught one barracuda, tons of yellowtail snapper and strawberry grouper, two cobia, and five mackerel. All in all a great day!

september is a hard month to fish in key west. the water is quite warm and the fish go deep to hide.

The locals know where to go and have great suggestions where you can have your catch cooked if you do not have that facility where you stay. Just go out and have fun, they take care of the rest..

Do your research...Pick the right captain and they'll put you on the fish... We had a great memorable trip! I can't wait to do it again!

Hot out there for sure. Remember it fishing not catching could take a while to find fish so give the Captain a break if takes a while to find them

It is HOT! Bring your sunblock or sunscreen, lotion, not spray! And chapstick for the lips! Wear spf clothing!

Water temperature was up, which affected fish movements. Boat had no shade, so hats and hooded shirts are a must.

There weren't a lot of bites or catches. A lot of small fish that were too small for the hooks. We were offshore fishing, so this makes sense.

Solid for the "off" season. Just book a trip and come experience one of the greatest fisheries on Earth.

It can be very hot at the end of July, so I would recommend being the first to fish in the morning or the latest to go out in the evening.

We came out mid July and Mangrove snapper were on spawning season. Captain took us to the reef and we caught 15 in less than 2hrs.

Look for a charter that describes what you want to do well from the get go and trust your captain to deliver it. Don’t pick a charter and then try to change it to something else.

The weather changes every hour, just wait it out and don’t let it be the deciding factor on what todo. We worked around it and still had an amazing time

We just caught the usual stuff. Nothing trophy-worthy or out of the ordinary. But that’s why it’s called fishing!

It would’ve been great to catch multiple types of fish but that’s my only reason for selecting good and not excellent. No reflection on the captain or crew.

First time…. Inshore flats and Backcountry trips as well as near shore fishing wrecks and reefs.

Get on a party boat. Learn about the area fishing. Ask questions about where other people have fished. Try other boats to see which ones you like the best.

It can be good for first time. Low gunnels on the boat. Safety issue with children plus best if can cast a rod.
