I would recommend keeping at least a couple options open as far as days. The weather was pretty rough and we only had one day to fish. It would've been nice to have a couple options.

Blue Water Fishing Puerto Rico
October is great for Mahi. Bring sunblock, neck/face shields. Plan on looking and stopping at every tree. He knows they will even hide under a single coconut in groups of 5-10. Trolling is optimal till a large active feeding pod is found. 4-8 miles offshore. Listen to him...he knows!!!

When fishing, especially for the first time, catching fish is not guaranteed. An experienced captain greatly tilts the favor on your side. I recommend Captain Luis to any angler!! The boat was clean n ready. He had all the bait prepared in advance especially when we got on the Mahi Mahi. This allowed us to catch more at a fast pace. Afterwords, cooler with drinks to get your second wind. Good Liska and safe fishing!!!

One small recommendation – if you're not used to being out on the ocean, I suggest taking some Dramamine before the trip to avoid getting seasick. It will make the experience even more enjoyable! 🎣

Pier Ten Boat
Wear plenty of sun screen it is hot & humid out there. There were some mosquitoes out there also so bring bug spray with you too. Other then that go out have a good time & listen & trust your Captain!!!!

Backwater Tarpon Fishing PR
The one suggestion that we do have is that to be mindful of the weather. It is hurricane season in August so we recommend being flexible with your plans. Other than that, it was great!

Offshore Fishing Pelagic Trip
Pay attention to the sargassum in the area. In large quantities it makes it impossible to fish and can get to the point where there is no option but to return home. I was fortunate it was at a manageable level when we went, but it was a lot of work for the deck hand constantly reeling in line to remove build up.

The only suggestion I would make is that make sure that you understand that you are fishing. That means you need patience and understanding that you're not in a hatchery. Fishing takes time and patience. I would contact the captain and find out what time of day would be best before booking.

It's a good time for fishing for Tarpon, bottom fishing is best in the summer. Be prepared for a fight and some heartbreak because these fish launch themselves out of the water which can break the line or lose the hook. All in all it's a great experience!

Our experience was a little disappointing but that isn't anybody's fault. Nature just wasn't cooperating and the fish were smarter that day, I guess! I'd say, go in knowing you might not catch anything and patience is key in this setting!

There were tarpon everywhere, just couldn't get them hooked. Would do it again with a longer tour.
