What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Destin, Florida for the first time?

Seems like the bite is very day to day. We had wierd weather, very cool and rainy for August, and I can’t imagine that it didn’t affect the fishing success.

Bring a lot of water, Gatorade! We thought we had enough but we put in some work getting those fish in and drank more than normal!

Terribly hot. It was hot even at 6 AM. Be sure to wear appropriate clothes. Cooling towels, and lot's of water.

We caught big enough red snapper for dinner a couple of nights for our group of 10. It’s HOT bring plenty of water.

It is pretty hot and late in the summer so it can be a bit difficult to find keeper sized fish of any species. Would wear lots of sun protection and try to find cool species near sunken structure.

Book well in advance as guides dates fill quick. Take plenty of water and clothing to protect against the sun.

Arrive early to pick out your fishing position on the boat. Bring old towels or rags and disinfectant wipes to clean your hands. Your hands will get very messy from handling bait and fish.

Bring sunscreen, drinks, and lunch. They have all the rest. Oh and a rag to wipe your hands from all the fish.

Coming from Louisiana it’s definitely a different style of fishing than what I am used to fishing but it was still a great experience

Don’t wear flip flops, even tennis shoes are better option. Do not bring bananas or even Banana branded products as all Captains are superstitious about bad luck bananas! It’s true, Google it!

Highly recommend booking a charter in Destin on Karma with Captain Rocky. He put us on the fish all day long and has decades of experience. We were all worn out from just a 1/2 day charter!!!

Its HOT! Bring water, Gatorade, powerade, whatever, and drinknit all! Also, sea sick meds are a must!

Be ready to catch fish. Be prepared for various weather conditions. Book on length in respect to how far out you want to travel. Longer excursions = farther out = larger, less pressured fish.

Currently the gulf is darker than normal due to rain up north, so you will need to be patient, and make sure you book a good charter like this one.

Be open minded. It is fishing some days they bite some days they don’t. Your captain can put you on them but can’t put them on your hook.
