What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Destin, Florida for the first time?

Sunscreen sunglasses and a hat maybe a lightweight rain suit if you really don't want to get wet you are on the sea

Brace yourself on the boat when reeling in! This ain't no freshwater fish, they have some fight to em !!

Finding the right captain and boat is the key to having a successful excursion. Pick out the species you want to catch and then find the captain that knows the spots to fish!

Make sure if you book a boat that says 6 people max all 6 can fish at once. We were told 6 then found out only 4 could fish at once

Be cautious of weather conditions and how the captain ensures that safety is a prime concern for you and your family.

Find a great guide and remember it’s fishing not grocery shopping. It’s a little work but all fun. Bring sun screen, a little food and lots of water.

Weather is key. If the weather is bad in the Gulf it doesn't mean you can't have a great time bay fishing

Find a good charter that has an experienced crew and is willing to take care of you no later the situation.

Book a party boat, or be sure to check out the captains before you commit to spending a lot of money.

Find out what fish are in season. We caught several red snapper but couldn't keep them because the season hadn't started. Apparently the date the season starts isn't the same every year.

I Would have liked to wait one more week, so bull red snapper would have been in season. June 1st.

Book a larger boat of 27’ or more for a comfortable ride and plenty of room to fish front and back.

Great fishing. Just check to make sure Red Snapper or Grouper are in season if you want more meat to bring home.

May is great time because the weather is great and it is much less crowded than later in the year. Fishing Booker was big help in selecting a charter and scheduling the trip?

Pack a bag with some snacks, have the appropriate clothing on so you can stay cool and not get burned. Also, wear a patch if you are prone to getting sea sick.

I would recommend a private fishing charter on the bay for first timers. It’s relaxed, more personable, and sure to be a great time

Water was a little rough and a little cold for some of the fish to be biting yet but we stayed busy catching (and releasing) small Trigger Fish and Vermillion Snapper.

The amount of fishing choices are endless and the thrill of fishing is enjoyed by the boat captains as well as the clients

Be sure to bring a long sleeve shirt if fishing in the morning. Even when it is warm out the boat ride out can get a little cold.

Go with 850 charters, they made the trip feel pressure free and comfortable, captain matt and first mate jared are first class

Check the temperature and weather conditions prior to coming to Destin. It was frigid most of the time.

That a trip on a private boat not a party boat. The experience is alot better and so is the fishing

Just know what is in season and which type of fishing you need to book, etc. i.e. Federal waters, etc. Otherwise enjoy some great fishing in the beautiful waters around Destin!!

I was told that the water temperature in August is so warm, that it makes fish lethargic and less likely to bite. We witnessed this first hand. Lol.

We had a great time but I think the fishing in Destin is probably better earlier in the year. We will do it again though just for the experience and to be on the water.

Go with capain mike for your first trip he definitely knows what he is doing and will get you your best bang for your buck !!!
