As one of the seven big bays on the Texas Gulf Coast, San Antonio Bay is a rich fishery. There’s a variety of fish species that call these waters their home, and you’re sure to have a lot of fun going after them. Go after the “Big Three” – Speckled Trout, Redfish, and Flounder – or just relax and see what ends up on your line. Jack Crevalle, Black Drum, Sheepshead, and Mangrove Snapper are all in the cards as well.

San Antonio Bay Fishing Seasons

January

This is a great time to go after Sheepshead, but Speckled Trout and Redfish are still biting. As temperatures get low, other species tend to quiet down.

February

If you’re looking for a winter fishing adventure in San Antonio Bay, prepare for a fight. Sheepshead are biting, along with Redfish and Speckled Trout.

March

With spring slowly coming to the bay, March is a great time to head out in search of big Redfish and Speckled Trout. The Flounder bite is good too.

April

In April, the best species to go after are Black Drum. Spanish Mackerel, Redfish, and Flounder are also biting hot.

May

This is when you’ll get the chance to go after prized Tarpon. Spanish Mackerel is still biting as well, along with Redfish and Trout.

June

With summer on the doorstep, you’ll find the fishing tends to heat up! Go after the Texas Trio – catch the biggest Redfish, Flounder, and Trout.

July

The fishing season is in full swing, and San Antonio Bay is brimming with fish. Flounder, Redfish, Trout, and Black Drum are all in the cards.

August

August is the warmest month in the bay, and it’s an excellent time to go after species like Tarpon, Redfish, and Speckled Trout.

September

With the coming of fall, you’ll have a great time on the water. You’ll be able to reel in fish like Redfish and Tarpon, but also Speckled Trout and Flounder.

October

If Flounder is what you’re after, there’s no better time to do it than October! Go Flounder gigging and experience a true Texan adventure.

November

This is when the temperatures start to drop, but the fishing is still hot. Go after prized Flounder, Trout, and Redfish, and get that Texas Trio!

December

The holiday season is upon us! Use this time to go on a Christmas fishing adventure in San Antonio Bay. The water is perfect to target some Sheepshead.

Great time in Port A. The food scene was so much better than I recall in the past. Even the bad weather was ok and cleared out for the afternoon. Fish were not biting like crazy but we still managed to pull our limit on trout and grab plenty for the freezer. Great time to visit!

Find a good guide like Tommy. Where you fish isn’t trivial. You need someone who knows the area, knows how the fish are moving, knows the tides, bait options, etc. Bring clothing that will keep you good in the wind and in early morning cooler temps. Bring snacks, drinks, sunscreen.

Capt. Starr was amazing with our boys. Despite the white caps in the bay Mr. Starr put us on fish and kept us safe and comfortable. Awesome trip.

Randy was a great guide and a pleasure to fish with. My wife and I both caught trout and redfish and got to mark that off our lists, plus we have some good meals at home to look forward to! Randy is fun, very knowledgeable and a great teacher. We absolutely enjoyed our morning and would do it again.

Dan made our fishing trip a special day that started tough, but ended great! He worked his tail off getting us on fish and was successful. Highly recommend.

Very, very windy day for our morning trip. We fished multiple locations trying to locate keeper fish. Redfish (5) all missed the slot cutoff length by 1”, but we caught limits on black drum and even a couple sheepshead. Croakers, a blue crab and a ladyfish were also caught. Catching about 30 fish, with the weather against us, is not a bad morning of fishing.

Jared was great! Very personable, knowledgeable and attentive. We wanted to catch some redfish. 8/10 fish we caught were redfish. Including a 27 inch. We will set up our next fishing trip with Jared

Great captain, great boat, great fishing! He knew where the fish were, and the appropriate tackle and bait. My 12 year old grandson said it was our best trip yet. Highly recommended!
